Darlene Rodrigue, controller of The Courier/Daily Comet, has been volunteering with the United Way of South Louisiana for over 15 years.

David Boudreaux

Vice President at Large

Dr. David E. Boudreaux, a native of New Iberia and resident of Thibodaux, has served as the vice president for Institutional Advancement at Nicholls State University since 1998. He began his career as an instructor in the English Department in 1967, and he rose to the rank of full professor. In fall of 1977, he became head of the English Department and stayed in that position for 17 years before being named dean of the College of Arts and Sciences in 1994.

Thomas Reckert

Lafourche Vice President

Thomas Reckert has served as Human Resource Director for John Deere Thibodaux from 1996 – Present.

Lisa Schilling

Terrebonne Vice President

Ms. Schilling currently serves as Executive Director of the South Central Louisiana Human Services Authority which encompasses Assumption, Lafourche, St. Charles, St. James, St. John the Baptist, St. Mary and Terrebonne parishes. The South Central Louisiana Human Services Authority (SCLHSA) was established in July 2006 by Legislative Act 449.

Mr. Buquet serves as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Buquet Distributing Company, the Anheuser-Busch InBev beer distributorship in South East Louisiana.

Campaign Chair

Manuel Merlos is Business Development Manager at Grand Isle Shipyard. Mr. Merlos has been an avid supporter of United Way for South Louisiana for nearly 25 years.

Clark Currie

Fund Distribution Co-Chair

Clark Currie has 20 years administrative experience in various healthcare delivery and payment environments. Clark is a member of the Houma Rotary Club, is interested in running, several music genres, and classic films. He agrees with the adage “To lead, one must serve.” Clark is serving currently as the United Way Fund Distribution Committee’s Incoming Chair.

  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Nicholls State University in 2004.
  • Certified Public Accountant since 1987.
  • Appointed Chief Operating Officer of Terrebonne General Medical Center in July 2007.

Gary Palmer

President Elect

Gary moved to Thibodaux in 1977 after receiving his BA degree in Business Administration from Northwestern State University. His first job was with Deep South Co-op, then in April of 1978 started with the Daily Comet where he worked for 23 years as Controller and Publisher. He currently runs the Charter Media Cable Advertising Sales Office in Thibodaux.

Garrett Hohensee

Garett Hohensee is Chief Financial Officer for Gulf Coast Manufacturing LLC in Gray, Louisiana where some of his responsibilities include accounting, financial reporting, taxes, internal control, information systems, human resources and employee benefits.

Hank Babin

Hank returned to Houma in 1997 to start the 3rd generation of service at Logan Babin Real Estate. He serves as a commercial/industrial agent, appraiser, and counselor. Like his father, he has been bestowed the honor of being invited as a member of the Counselors of Real Estate (CRE).

Vernon Bourgeois

L. Vernon Bourgeois, Jr., is now retired from a long thirty year career in law enforcement. Before that he was a medical technologist for the Cardiovascular Institute of the South. Vernon joined the United Way Board of Directors in 2012, has been married to Jeanne for 32 years, and they have two sons, Louis and Brian. In his retirement, Vernon is enjoying golfing, biking, hiking and traveling.

Ed Bouterie

ED is Director in Charge of the Houma and Thibodaux offices of Bourgeois Bennett, CPAs & Consultants. His expertise includes tax return preparation for individuals and businesses and he provides accounting, auditing and clients advisory services for a broad spectrum of clients that include oilfield service companies, governmental entities, construction companies, retailers and medical, legal and non-profit organizations.

Kim Elfert

Kim Elfert is Vice President of Human Resources and Marketing for Coastal Commerce Bank. Over the past twenty years Ms. Elfert has worked primarily in marketing, non-profit development and event planning for organizations throughout Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes.

Tim Emerson

Tim Emerson is the Senior Financial Advisor for Morgan Stanley. He is a Senior Vice President of Morgan Stanley Smith Barney and has been with the firm or predecessor firms (Legg Mason and Smith Barney) for 22 years.

Mike Fakier

Currently co-owner and CFO of Southland Steel and Supply, LLC, Mike is a 1971 graduate of Vandebilt Catholic High School and received his BS in Accounting from Nicholls State University in 1975. He is married to Ellen Alba Fakier and their daughter Lauren is a recent graduate of Nicholls State University.

Paul Labat

Paul has been an active member and past president of the United Way for over 30 years. He was the Council Clerk for the Terrebonne Parish Council for 38 years and after retiring, he currently serves Terrebonne General Medical Center as a part time consultant who began The Foundation for TGMC. Paul is active in many local civic and community organizations and was named the Courier’s Most Useful Citizen for 2005. He lists traveling, landscape gardening and live theater as his main leisure activities.

Travis Lavigne

F. Travis Lavigne, Jr. is the Chancellor of the L.E. Fletcher Technical Community College, joined the United Way Board of Directors in 2006, and served as Campaign Chairman in 2009. Travis is also a member of the Rotary Club of Houma, the Houma-Terrebonne Chamber of Commerce, the Bayou Industrial Group, and SCIA. He’s also an avid fisherman, and loves mowing the grass.

Bryce Ledet

Bryce Ledet, CPA owns a public accounting practice in Thibodaux, Louisiana. Professional activities include President (2010) of the South Central Chapter of the Louisiana Society for CPAs (LCPA), and he currently serves as a member of the AICPA, , LCPA, LCPA Business Consulting Committee, LCPA Small Business Committee, as well as the Nicholls State University Accounting Department Advisory Board

Jerry Ledet

Mr. Ledet is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Synergy Bancshares, Inc., and its wholly owned subsidiary, Synergy Bank. His career has encompassed extensive commercial and retail lending as well as branch administration and management.

Al Richard

Senior Vice President, with Whitney Bank has served on the United Way board for twenty-six years, and has shared his talents with various UW committees. Al also serves on the Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center Development Corp., Houma-Terrebonne Community Development, is a member of SCIA and the Chamber of Commerce. He is also an avid golfer and fisherman.

Elmy Savoie

Elmy Savoie is the Executive Director of Institutional Advancement and External Relations at Fletcher Technical Community College. She is a graduate of LSU School of Mass Communication and has over 15 years of marketing and public relations experience. Ms. Savoie started working for Fletcher in 2006 as public relations coordinator.

Greg Stock

Greg Stock is Chief Executive Officer of Thibodaux Regional. He has brought the medical center to a significantly higher level of performance and experienced “results-oriented” leadership.

Susan Szush

Born and raised in Houma, LA. I am married to (Joe) Perry Szush from Thibodaux, LA. We live in Houma and have 3 children, 4 Grandchildren and 5 Dachshunds. Currently work for Acadian Ambulance Service as a Community Relations Supervisor and a National Registered Paramedic.

Suzette Thomas

Suzette Thomas is an employee of the Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government serving as a member of the Terrebonne Parish Council Staff for fifteen (15) years.
